PROJECT WINS

 

·         Trilliant will build on its successful 2011 pilot with the Victoria Electric Cooperative with a full scale roll out of a smart grid deployment for the Texas town, with completion expected by the end of 2014.  The project will leverage Trilliant's communications platform to deliver advanced utility services. ·         Aclara won a contract with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) to deploy its consumer engagement software platform. The solution is designed to increase energy literacy, engagement and related behavioral changes that help customers understand and manage energy usage and costs.  Read more >>

·         Quanta Services got the nod from American Electric Power (AEP) to rebuild 66 miles of its 345,000-volt power line near Corpus Christi, Texas.  Quanta says it will perform the work in an energized state, which means it will be the longest span of transmission line in the U.S. to be rebuilt while remaining in an energized state. Projected for completion in March 2016, this project is the first of five phases of energized transmission upgrades planned in the area by AEP. Read more >>

 

·         SunPower signed a power purchase agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) for delivery of the 100-megawatt (AC) Henrietta Solar Project in Kings County, Calif. SunPower says the project is expected to create approximately 200 jobs during construction and inject $72.7 million into the local economy.  Read more >>

 

·         Milsoft Utility Solutions will be adding its outage management, GIS and IVR communications to solutions it provides Sam Houston Electric Cooperative, which serves nearly 52,000 members in eastern Texas. The company also announced it was chosen by Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative to supply its field inspection solution and that Tombigbee Electric Cooperative in Alabama added its IVR communications to its existing portfolio of Milsoft products. FINANCING AND M&A WINS

 

·         Mainstream Renewable Power, an independent developer of renewable energy projects with offices and initiatives underway around the world, announced financing of up to EUR60 million from the Macquarie Group and another EUR16.8 million from high net worth individuals. Read more >>

 

MILESTONES & HONORS

 

·         Business software provider SAP announced the winners of its Best-Run Utilities awards. The honors went to:

 

o    Top Innovator – Mobility: CenterPoint Energy adopted a mobile platform, smartphones and smart meters to drive improvements for customers and employees.

 

o    Top Innovator – Technology: Southern California Edison successfully implemented the SAP HANA platform for real-time analytics, reinforcing its position as a first-mover in adopting new technology to drive significant business benefits.

 

o    Top Innovator – Technology: Hydro One continues to demonstrate commitment to meeting customer needs while working toward building the grid of the future by completing projects that span the complete value chain of its business.

 

o    Project of the Year -- U.S.: TECO Energy completed one of the most clean, trouble-free and cost-effective implementations of SAP® Business Suite software in the industry.

 

o    Project of the Year -- Canada: FortisBC finalized its new customer information system and opened new British Columbia-based customer service centers in 2011. The project was delivered on time and below budget.

 

o    Utility of the Year: American Water recently launched the first phase of a major business transformation that is focused on providing improved customer service and greater operational efficiency. Read more >>
