There’s a lot of ground to cover in this week’s selection of smart grid wins, from projects, industry developments, a new partnership, a top award and interesting finance news. So we’ll get right to it.

 

PROJECTS AND DEVELOPMENTS

Jersey Central Power and Light will be installing a “smart grid” project in Bernards, Harding and Morristown as part of a $250 million capital-improvement program. John Anderson, an area manager of the utility, told the Somerset County Freeholders on Tuesday afternoon that JCP&L will be spending $7 million to modernize three circuits in the municipalities. Colorado Springs Utilities has signed an agreement with smart metering and grid management solutions provider Landis+Gyr, to initiate an advanced load management program to help reduce load on distribution system assets during peak power consumption. Read more >>

 

The Water Innovation Project announced the formation of the inaugural Leadership Council for H2.O. The council was created by industry leaders who want to help water and wastewater utilities better manage their data. Read more >>

 

ABB has won an order worth roughly $55 million to supply a submarine AC power cable system for a new wind farm, located off the coast of Norfolk in the UK. The underwater cables will feed the electricity generated by the 400-megawatt (MW) Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm into the UK national grid. The order was received from Dudgeon Offshore Wind Limited. Silver Spring Networks expressed its support for the CEPT’s framework for members to rationalize spectrum use at 870-875.6 MHz within European countries. Within the CEPT framework, 5.6 MHz of spectrum (870-875.6 MHz) has been allocated for use by systems such as “Metropolitan and Rural Area Networks (MRANS),” also widely known as wireless mesh machine-to-machine networks.
