Silver Spring Networks has taken an increasingly active role in the smart cities sector and shows no signs of slowing down. The networking platform and solutions company for smart energy networks announced Tuesday it is stepping up its smart city presence with a new Network-as-a-Service offering designed to help cities deal with the most pressing challenges they face: economic, environmental, health and safety, traffic and transportation.

The new Network-as-a-Service will deploy, manage and run smart city networks for SSN’s client cities, an offering that will help them skirt costs associated with new capital equipment and implementation costs, and cut operation and management costs. The service also gives cities a way to use the same network for future deployments of smart city applications.

Eric Dresselhuys, executive VP of Global Development for SSN, said “Our new Network-as-a-Service offering delivers game-changing economics, reduces risk, and allows cities to self-fund their smart city network.”

The Silver Spring solution includes its well-established IPv6 wireless networking platform and management and control software optimized for smart city devices and is delivered through the new Network-as-a-Service to give cities a fast and easy way to deploy smart city services.
