SGCC report features 4 utilities that get customer engagement right

A number of utilities have met resistance against their smart grid initiatives, at least in part because they failed to involve and educate customers early on if at all. That's why a new report from the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative on four utilities that have found the keys to consumer acceptance makes for some interesting reading.
The SGCC report highlights the strategies and components behind the efforts of CenterPoint Energy, Oklahoma Gas & Electric, San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison to reach and successfully engage customers with the benefits of smart grid, smart meters, demand response and technologies for home energy management.
"When utilities take certain steps to engage consumers in the smart grid and empower them to manage their energy, it works," said Patty Durand, SGCC executive director. "As consumers become more educated about smart grid and smart meters, and have access to more information, pricing and automation applications, their knowledge and favorability grows, and so does our nation's energy efficiency."
