S&C Electric Company announced an expansion of its smart grid portfolio, including new Intellicom DA mesh radios for smart grid communications, new Intellicap 2000 communicating capacitor controls that the company says make it simpler to deploy Volt/VAR optimization solutions and next-gen remote setup software for S&C DA controls.

 

Itron has begun a collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies on a next-generation smart energy platform that leverages cellular technology through the use of Qualcomm’s Gobi MDM8x15 chipset. Itron says its new smart meters will bring greater choices to utility customers and further strengthen its integrated cellular offerings.

 

ABB made a flurry of announcements at DistribuTECH. Among them:

·         A collaboration with Ambient on a solution for advanced power quality monitoring

·         Debut of its new 15kV current and voltage sensor line named DistribuSense (pictured here)

·         Release of what it says is the first 40kA magnetically actuated outdoor breaker for 38kV

 

Comverge announced SmartConsumer, an integrated suite of software and services to help utilities reduce base load by educating and inspiring residential customers to become more energy aware as well as new smart thermostats and digital control units that the company says can dramatically reduce the cost of demand response program implementations.

Energate announced its Consumer Connected Demand Response (CCDR) platform has been qualified to operate over the Sensus FlexNet AMI technology and that PowerStream, which delivers power and services to 355,000 customers in Ontario, Canada, is scheduled to be the first utility to install CCDR over FlexNet early this year.

 

SkyWave and ILS announced a collaboration featuring SkyWave's satellite network and the ILS  M2M platform that gives  utilities an off-the-shelf solution for implementing SCADA applications in less time and at a lower cost.

 

InStep Software and LiveData will integrate their technologies for the joint development of electric power industry solutions for integrating real-time data between measurement and monitors from different manufacturers.

 

Proximetry and Airspan are extending their partnership to address the unique scalability and security network management requirements of end-to-end multiservice smart energy networks.

Belden introduced its GarrettCom Router for hardened, secure substation networking. The company says the solution offers advanced layer 3 networking protocols, firewall and secure virtual private networking.
