Smart Grid smart news for Nigeria Power Industry
Smart Grid smart news for Nigeria Power Industry. I can't still sleep after working for 6 years as Telecom Engineer; am picking up varying knowledge from advances in power technologies so that I can help my dear country Nigeria present power condition. That'll mean fullfilling the promise I made to my late University Professor, maybe Ican have some sleep.

EnerNOC Launching New Webinar Series
Hi Smart Grid News,
I’m writing to you because I was hoping you would be able to help us promote our EnergySMART Webinar Series in an upcoming newsletter or on your company website. Each month we will be hosting a thought leadership webinar bringing together people who are passionate about energy and who are striving to make more intelligent energy management decisions. I think your members would find great value in the content and discussions that will be shared.
I’ve provided some promo copy below. Please feel free to use as little or as much of the copy as needed.
“Getting to the Bottom(line) of Energy Efficiency”
Join us for a webinar: Wednesday, January 23, 2013 | 1:00 – 2:00pm EST
We've never met an energy manager with too much time and too much money to spend on energy efficiency. Budget and time are not the only barriers to implementing energy efficiency successfully; executive engagement, appropriate tools, data, and communication systems pose challenges too.
To kick off our new EnergySMART Webinar Series, we’ve tapped experts Jake Hiller at the Environmental Defense Fund and Jaxon Love of Shorenstein Properties LLC to share their perspectives on overcoming these barriers and the key role that energy data measurement and management play in identifying and implementing efficiency initiatives.

Central Maine Power Smart Meter Safety Study
Smart meter litigation in Maine reached a milestone last week with the release of a ratepayer funded study confirming FCC compliance of the radio frequency communication mesh installed by Central Maine Power as part of its Advanced Meter Infrastructure project. The study was commissioned by the Maine Office of Public Advocate to measure the maximum and average power output of a sample of smart meters and other system components using the mesh network, and compare these readings to existing safety standards.
The OPA study puts the first question to rest.
"The RF exposure measurement survey detailed in the report found that the included Smart Meters and associated AMI infrastructure devices produced emissions significantly below the maximum power density exposure levels as outlined by the FCC in the OET Bulletin 65 Ed. 97‐01 for the general public.
In the extreme case the survey identified, the highest peak (short duration) percent of Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) was 13.4% of the FCC limit, measured near the Smart Meter at location M‐1 outside of the Smart Meter’s expected period of maximum activity. This reading likely included the RF signals from a number of possible nearby sources. The equivalent time‐averaged exposure level would have been 4.6% of the FCC exposure limit for the General Population.the CMP system broadcasts at a peak intensity that is less than 5% of the FCC standard."
The remaining question in the case goes to the adequacy of the FCC standard to protect public safety for any RF device; a broad policy question that CMP has argued falls outside of the Commission's expertise and authority to decide.
The OPA report can be viewed on the MPUC website here: https://mpuc-cms.maine.gov/CQM.Public.WebUI/Common/ViewDoc.aspx?DocRefId={0EA266A1-AB62-4E4F-AAD0-0856E37CA1E8}&DocExt=pdf

From fires in Philadelphia to firearms in Texas, smart meter associated flare-ups make the news weekly. And it makes us wonder: If you could turn back the clock and rethink the whole smart grid rollout, would you do it differently? And if so how? That's this week's topic in our discussion forum.
