PROJECT WINS
· Landis+Gyr has been selected by West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) to provide more than 1.5 million digital electricity meters for their modernization and rural electrification program. According to L+G, this most recent award from WBSEDCL is believed to be the largest electricity metering order in India for supply single-phase meters. Read more >>
· Oracle was selected by North Carolina-based
Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC), an electric, water, sewer and natural gas service provider, to help reduce costs and improve customer service. GUC will use a broad footprint of Oracle applications and technology solutions, working with Oracle partner Lucidity Consulting Group on the implementation. Read more >>
· GE is providing Southern California Edison (SCE) with a Phasor Measurement System to improve grid reliability. Also known as a wide-area situational awareness system, the phasor project involves the deployment of PMU devices in 500 kV and 230 kV substations throughout SCE’s network and their integration with associated situational awareness applications at the grid control center, providing real-time decision support to system operators. · New Power Technologies will provide Sacramento Municipal Utility District with an integrated T&D modeling tool powered by New Power Technologies’ Energynet and GRIDiant’s Advanced Grid Management technologies. “Our objective with the Integrated T&D Modeling Tool is to utilize the field monitoring and system modeling data available from legacy and new smart grid systems to provide high fidelity, quantifiable displays and analysis under specific system conditions,” said SMUD Project Manager Jeff Berkheimer. “It will allow SMUD to more accurately assess, visualize, and manage current and future system impacts from electric vehicle deployments, energy storage systems, demand response programs, distributed generation, and solar PV generation within SMUD’s service territory.” Read more >>
· GRIDiant, meanwhile, announced it has entered a joint technology agreement with Baltimore Gas and Electric to commercialize a new software application that could improve the reliability of smart grid and lower distribution line crew costs for utilities. The new GRIDplan Fault Circuit Indicator software will assist utilities in determining the optimal placement of fault circuit sensing devices to reduce the time it takes a line crew to locate a fault. As a result, the duration of potential power outages could be reduced. Read more >>
· Itron and Tantalus were selected for an initial deployment of smart meters and AMI infrastructure for South American utility, Guyana Power and Light (GP&L). Guyana’s deployment is the first international joint project between Tantalus and Itron since the two companies announced an alliance in late 2011 that combines Itron’s metering solutions with the Tantalus communications network. "Guyana Light and Power is leading the way in smart grid technology by building a network that anticipates the needs of tomorrow's grid," noted Tantalus CEO Eric Murray. Read more >>
· Itron and ClipperCreek announced that Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will install revenue-grade electric vehicle charging stations in collaboration with selected distributors in its territory, which includes nine million people across seven southeastern states. Installation of the charging stations is scheduled to begin in mid- 2013. The solution includes ClipperCreek charging stations embedded with Itron sensor technologies, such as revenue-grade metrology, cellular communications and a ZigBee communication module. Read more >>
· Survalent Technology has commissioned new SCADA systems for Santee Electric Cooperative which has 40,000 members in South Carolina and for People's Electric Cooperative, a rural electric distribution cooperative providing electrical service to approximately 15,000 members in 11 south central Oklahoma counties.
