Which smart grid companies should we have on our radar as the 2012 calendar pages turn? That's what our 12 in 2012 is all about. And now it's time to vote. We’ve got 26 contenders and you need to decide which one of them you think has the greatest potential to be the year's smart grid superstar.
In case you’re just tuning in to the SGN 12 in 2012, here’s how we got to this point: Readers nominated companies they think are watch-worthy and told us why. Our team reviewed all of the nominations we received and did a preliminary sort. Over the past week or so we’ve been briefly highlighting the 26 companies you see on the ballot. If you want to take another look at them before you vote, click to page 2 where we've listed all 26 companies and provided comments from the people who nominated them.
Voting will end at midnight Pacific time on Friday, Jan.27. Be sure to check back next week to find out which 12 companies SGN readers selected as the ones to watch this year.
And finally, if you want to do some 11th hour lobbying on behalf of one of the 26 companies in contention (or explain why you voted the way you did), feel free to use the Talk Back form below.
My vote would be for Schneider Electric. In the U.S. under the SqD Brand their areas of energy management, monitoring , and control provide a key attribute to the Smart Grid support.
The areas of expansion by purchasing key companies shows their dedication to the future and this third industrial revolution based on clean energy and distributed control.

Where is link for voting?
Where is the link to actually cast a vote?

Voting link
You just click the button next to the name of the company. If you aren't seeing buttons it may be someone from your same IP address has already voted and you'll need to try from a different computer, home, etc.

Companies to watch
In my opinion, Nexgrid is the smartest choice here. Not only have they appeared to be a strong company in such a short period of time, but I being a web designer, think Nexgrid is not only up-to-date on their products and how they affet the smartgrid network today, but their website is most certainly the most well put together site I've checked out from the list. They definitely seem to be keeping every aspect of the Smart Grid technology world, updated, from hardware to software and beyond.
I wouldn't be surprised to see big things to come from them. Way to go Nexgrid

Company to watch
Bridge Energy Group
As Green Tech Media recently pointed out in an article for the Top 5 Trends for Smart Grid in 2011, integration is the name of the smart grid name in ensuring that smart grid systems live up to their promises. BRIDGE Energy Group is working on just that – from developing solutions to fully integrate conservation voltage reduction solutions with AMI and DMS to integrating IT and OT to create alignment with the front office and back office – BRIDGE continues to secure it’s spot as a formidable player in the integration space and will continue to develop solutions that support new and future business models.

Broken voting...
Seems the voting is broken for many (or the site was hacked). I saw no buttons to vote next to any of the entries.

Found the voting problem...
All the computers where I work are all proxied behind a single IP address, so although there are 500 people here this voting mechanism thinks we are just one person/computer.

One Vote per IP Address
If you aren't seeing buttons it may be someone from your same IP address has already voted and you'll need to try from a different computer, home, etc.

Power Analytics gets my vote.
A smart grid isn't truly smart without intelligent analytics. If you don't understand your past and forecast your future you will be blindsided by the inevitable gotchas that will spring up in your electrical network and your network as a whole. I have seen a lot of polish on the smart grid approach, but the Power Analytics seems to really have their finger on the pulse of how to maximize the use and understanding of your power scheme and smart grid as a network, truly turning your knowledge into a financial asset. That's my 2 cents.

OnRamp Wireless- IMPRESSIVE
The technology they have developed is second to none. With far reaching possibilities across various industries. It gets my vote.

PayGo
Anyone at Distributech??? How did you miss the buzz on prepay? PayGo is providing some of the first "apps" for the smart meter. The company announced it deal with Georgia Power two weeks ago as well.

Smart Grid Intergration-Bridge Energy Group
Smart grid technology is emerging that will definitely change how we understand and do business in the energy market.BRIDGE Energy Group is working on just that – from developing solutions to fully integrate conservation voltage reduction(CVR) solutions with AMI and DMS to integrating IT and OT to create alignment with the front office and back office
Three new demonstration projects caught our attention - a smart grid effort in Albuquerque's business district, a rapid recovery transformer study in Texas and a trial involving low voltage current sensor technologies in the UK. They also got us to thinking: At this stage in the smart grid build out, if you could design a demonstration project, what would it entail? That's our latest Tuesday Topic; click for the details.
