We have some hefty wins on our list this week – from a $68.5 million Canadian contract to a $260 million order in Oregon. See who snagged those and other smart grid awards, plus check our M&A wins section on page 2 to see which Texas company Toshiba just acquired.
PROJECT WINS
· IBM was awarded a new five-year, $68.5 million (Cdn) contract to continue supporting the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to operate Ontario's Meter Data Management and Repository (MDM/R) system with new computing infrastructure and an updated operating environment. IBM says the MDM/R is a core part of Ontario's smart metering initiative to drive a culture of conservation, enabling the billing of time-of-use rates and encouraging consumers to shift more of their energy use to off-peak periods. · Echelon will provide its Edge Control Node, Control Operating System based application platform and 3,000 advanced grid sensors to the Smart Grid Gotland project. The project is a large-scale, pioneering smart grid technology demonstration on the island of Gotland, Sweden -- a joint venture between Vattenfall, Gotland Energy, ABB, Swedish National Grid, Schneider Electric, Royal Institute of Technologyand partly financed by the Swedish Energy Agency. · EnerNOC – one of our just-announced 13 Companies to Watch in 2013 -- has expanded its presence in Southern California through a new contract with Southern California Edison. Under the terms of the new contract, EnerNOC will increase its number of megawatts in SCE's service territory by approximately 15 percent through Dec. 31, 2014. Earlier this week the Boston-based demand response provider announced a similar expanded contract in Northern California under a program administered by PG&E. Read more >>
· ABB won an order worth around $260 million from the Bonneville Power Administration to upgrade the existing Celilo high-voltage direct current converter station in Oregon. The station is an important part of the electricity link between the Pacific Northwest and Southern California commissioned more than 40 years ago. Key components of the station upgrade include valves, controls, transformers as well as switchgear and cooling equipment. In addition to modernizing the converter station, ABB says the upgrade will also make it feasible to boost capacity up to 3,800 MW. Read more >>
· Milsoft Utility Solutions was selected to provide its geographic information and outage management systems to Santee Electric Cooperative in South Carolina and its geographic information system and field engineering solution to the Southeastern Illinois Electric Cooperative in Eldorado, Illinois.
