A new white paper from Pike Research identifies 10 key smart grid trends we can expect to see throughout next year and beyond in technology, business, policy and consumer behavior. A sampling of trend predictions included in Smart Grid: Ten Trends to Watch in 2011 and Beyond includes:

·         Security will be the biggest smart grid worry

·         Distribution automation will rival AMI as the most high-profile smart grid application

·         Demand response business transformation will continue to speed up

·         Smart grid stimulus funds will finally show a positive impact

·         Data management will be the next obstacle to smart grid benefits

Bob Gohn, Pike senior analyst, said "The electrical power grid is in the midst of a dramatic transformation. As utilities, vendors, and other key stakeholders gain more real-world deployment experience, the reality of the smart grid is coming into focus, too slowly for some, but at a faster pace than typically seen in this industry."
