· Ambient is partnering with ELO Sistemas Eletronicos, Brazil's leading metering technology provider, to bring advanced communications technologies for smart meter reading applications to ELO's utility customers in South America. The two companies expect to have the integrated system ready for pilot in 2012 in preparation for volume rollouts beginning in 2013. · Saft will design, produce and install a battery energy storage system for Cowessess First Nation as part of the High Wind and Storage Project near Regina, Saskatchewan. It represents the first wind power project in North America for the French company. “This project builds on Saft’s earlier successes integrating energy storage batteries with wind generation and will demonstrate the benefits of lithium‐ion energy storage in enhancing the value of wind energy,” noted Jim McDowall, Business Development Manager at Saft’s Energy Storage Systems Business Unit in Jacksonville, Fla. · CALMAC got the winning ticket from the California Lottery Commission to install its IceBank thermal energy storage tanks in the commission's new facilities in Sacramento which boast a number of energy efficiency and sustainability features including a photovoltaic system and daylight harvesting. The thermal energy system and PV solar panels are sized to classify the pavilion in the facility as a net zero energy building. As CALMAC explains it, at night, ice is made using energy from the grid. During the day, PV produces energy, which offsets the night-time energy. Excess energy is utilized to offset energy consumption in the rest of the building. More >>

EDF Renewable Energy and SMA collaborating on a 110 MW AC solar plant in Kern County, Calif. SMA will supply the medium voltage power platforms for the project, which is EDF's largest utility-scale solar project in the U.S. to date. The Catalina Solar Project is being constructed on 1,100 acres of land. San Diego Gas & Electric will purchase the power generated at the plant under a 25-year power purchase agreement. More >>
· BTI Systems will deliver its suite of mobile, ethernet, data center, cloud and packet optical products to KAMO Electric Cooperative headquartered in Vinita, Oklahoma. KAMO is a generation and transmission cooperative serving 17 member distribution cooperatives throughout northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri. According to BTI, KAMO is moving aggressively to capitalize on the business opportunities afforded by their smart grid control network fiber assets and needed a needed a telecommunications technology partner. · Milsoft Utility Solutions had its GIS and Mobile Map Viewer chosen by the San Isabel Electric Association in Colorado for use in engineering and operations. “We are very happy to be able to support San Isabel with our GIS and Mobile Viewer,” said Josh Wolf, Milsoft Regional Account Manager. “They are taking a big step forward in their capability to plan, operate and manage their electric system.” More >>
