Any use of an open standard technology is to be applauded, but the flip side of a standard is that anyone can then read the data. It would be useful to know what technology is being used for security in this system? Is it WiFi security, such as WEP or WPA2, or something proprietary? Very dangerous and a statistical matter of time till it is exploited by the bad guys. These devices should operate as clients only and not open listening sockets for incoming traffic. It can be done.
