1 Quick Take: This is one of several "platforms" that are starting to appear. This one is not from one of the majors, but from a small startup which has done some innovative partnering to gather momentum. - By Jesse Berst
KEMA established the Interoperability Lab to give the utility industry a platform for managing risk exposure, verifying business case projections and ensuring a more efficient and effective smart grid deployment. The advanced testing lab provides independent verification of device interoperability, and also validates compliance of low-voltage automation equipment, meters and consumer products with smart grid standards.
Green Energy's Roxy Podlogar, VP for product strategy, said "Using GreenBus at KEMA's Smart Grid Interoperability Lab will not only enable interoperability between applications, but also will provide a platform for innovation, through advanced technologies and design, open source-derived components and vendor agnostic functionality."
GreenBus will be set up and used to integrate applications that determine interoperability, scalability and reliability in utility or microgrid deployments. It also will be used to illustrate operational effectiveness through its advanced data acquisition and control platform.
KEMA VP Ron Chebra said the GreenBus platforms features are ideally suited for use in the Interop Lab. He commented "Utilities invest in costly and time-consuming trials to prove interoperability. The KEMA Smart Grid Interop Lab can emulate the utility's proposed production environment at a fraction of the time and cost of a typical interoperability pilot."
