Oncor Joins IBM's Smart Grid Coalition and Hits Milestone in Smart Meters

Dallas-based Oncor, the country's sixth largest electricity transmission and distribution utility, has joined IBM's Global Intelligent Utility Network Coalition (GIUNC), IBM announced. The coalition works to promote further adoption of Smart Grids and Smart Grid technologies worldwide. The coalition has embarked on a number of new projects, including: finding ways to understand the effect of Smart Grid deployments on emissions, studying grid impact and business strategy related to EVs, evaluating regulatory models and identifying customer behavior and their perceptions of new technologies and service value. Oncor also celebrated a major milestone last week with the installation of its one millionth smart meter.

Quick Take: There are industry groups collaborating on everything from standards development to transmission issues and security. It also makes infinite sense for coalitions of high-powered stakeholders like this one to put their shoulders behind promoting and marketing the Smart Grid. It's just good Smart Grid strategy.
