The Oklahoma Corporation Commission, initially skeptical about Oklahoma Gas & Electric's gradual smart meter rollout, is now "sold on the technology" according to a story in the Oklahoma City Oklahoman. One reason: When a unit was installed at the home of deputy director Brandy Wreath "it made a drastic difference," he confesses.
Customers like Wreath – part of an OG&E smart grid pilot last summer – save at least $100 on their electric bills during hot months. Overall, 98 percent of customers with smart meters have gotten lower electricity bills, according to OG&E.
Ken Grant, manager of the OG&E smart grid effort, says the meters have gotten high satisfaction scores, proving "that customers loved the program." Take that, California!
