iControl Will Bundle Energy Management With Home Security By SGN Staff Nov 12, 2009 - 3:43:59 PM
California startup iControl plans to combine energy management features with its home security software in an effort to break into the home energy management sector. The company's ConnectedLife Energy Management software was introduced earlier this month.
Residential customers can use the software as part of a home security system from ADT or GE, iControl CEO Paul Dawes was quoted as saying in a SmartMeters news article.
He said his company is concentrating on developing more partnerships in home security and broadband to eventually provide the software. The company also is working on establishing pilot projects with utilities.
iControl's energy management product includes support for smart meters and appliances, and that will be combined with software for motion sensors, security and lighting systems and door locks. The energy management product is based on Internet Protocol.
The company is betting that residential consumers and utilities will be willing to share the cost of $50 per household. The cost would be $75 if a smart thermostat is included in the package. The thermostat is expected to become available sometime in the next few months from an iControl partner.
