Cisco Smart Grid: Company Trots Out New Home Energy Management Solution

The crowded home energy management market continues to heat up with the announcement of the Cisco Home Energy Management Solution. The networking leader also announced key updates to its Smart Connected Buildings portfolio of products and solutions.

The new home energy management solution features a Home Energy Controller (pictured here) coupled with Cisco Home Energy Management Services to be offered by utilities to their customers to help them "securely and reliably" understand and control their energy consumption. The new Smart Connected Buildings technologies include the Cisco Network Building Mediator Manager 6300, which provides centralized management of Smart Connected Buildings across global enterprise operations, and the new Cisco Network Building Mediator 3.1, which includes a platform for linking multiple disparate building automation systems and protocols over Internet Protocol.

 

Quick Take: If you're in the home energy management arena, you already know what a crowded place it is. With its expanding collection of home energy management solutions, Cisco continues to claim a bigger piece of that turf: Good news for Cisco, maybe not so good news for less successful players.
