. Starview Technology, an event-driven solutions provider, and Logica, a business and technology services company, have joined forces on a Real-Time Demand Automator (RTDA) to help utilities manage the fluctuating and anticipated increasing demand on the electric grid. Specifically, RTDA is intended to give European utilities a tool to manage anticipated increases in demand as EV popularity grows. The system uses Analytical Event Processing (AEP) to monitor and control demand and distribution in real-time. RTDA, built on Starview's Smart Enterprise Platform, has been installed in Logica's UK Innovation Centre and will be installed soon in its Portuguese Innovation Centre that specializes in utility solutions.
Jesse Berst's take: We're seeing a rush of announcements for new demand response applications and for charging platforms to help ease the pain of adding electric vehicle charging to the distribution grid. What we are not seeing is any indication that these systems will work together. They need to support standard plugs, chargers and on-vehicle equipment. More importantly, they need to support a common information model so data and commands can be passed back and forth.
