load shedding, but also offers load shaping, which Verisae says "is the ability to adjust in real-time the dynamic nature of utility pricing and the resulting customer response." In other words, DR 2.0 allows utilities to quickly adjust pricing to head off a spike in demand rather than simply react to an emergency by dropping load. Essentially, utilities and their larger customers create a virtual power plant of dispatchable load that can manage high demand periods and fill in when intermittent renewable energy sources fade temporarily. Verisae will provide the DR services and Schneider will handle marketing and management.

 

Quick Take: We've been saying as early as a year ago that this is the path Schneider would take in its transformation from a product provider to a Smart Grid solutions provider.
