1 Quick Take: If you've watched the situation in Texas you have seen "wires" companies such as Centerpoint and Oncor build platforms on top of which retailers and aggregators can build their own differentiated offerings. Ontario is up to the same thing... and Energate will be one of the core engines at the center. - By Jesse Berst
Now that all required approvals have been squared away, Energate's load management software and its COREâ„¢ middleware are available to all aggregators and local distribution companies, providing utility load control integration with Energate's portfolio of consumer technologies. A comprehensive software agreement has been signed with Mississuaga-based Rodan Energy solutions, the province's RDR operator and its largest aggregator.
The approvals came after competitive bidding and completion of a successful pilot of Energate's Consumer-Connected Demand Response platform, which consists of in-home smart thermostats, load control switches and consumer information displays with several communications options – and management software for both utilities and consumers.
"After its early smart grid initiatives, Ontario has leapt forward again demonstrating industry leadership with one of the most advanced and comprehensive demand response programs in North America, now leveraging the power of broadband," said Energate co-founder and CEO Niraj Bhargava.
