The heat wave that is melting much of the nation is setting records. In New York, the Times Union reports the state's power grid maybe taxed more than ever. Record-setting peak loads are anticipated by the New York Independent System Operator as the hot streak continues through the weekend. Reuters reports that Con Edison is anticipating scattered outages in New York as the excessive heat continues.

Meanwhile, the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MITSO) has already declared a record this week, with the highest demand ever for electricity in the 12-state area it serves. As Renew Grid reports, the MITSO has put a proposal in motion to lock down demand response mechanisms for future sustained periods of high loads.
