Siemens Energy will build about 150 of its 2.3 MW wind turbines for Washington's Puget Sound Energy (PSE), the state's oldest local energy utility. The turbines will be built for the utility's Lower Snake River Wind Project. With 350 MW of installed capacity, the wind facility will provide clean power for more than 100,000 homes in the state. The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning, as well as a five-year service agreement. A Siemens executive said the contract represents "...an important stepping stone towards becoming one of the top two wind power suppliers in the U.S."
Quick Take: Yes, it's a very big score for Siemens and it further establishes PSE's reputation as a utility committed to renewable energy. The American Wind Energy Association considers it the country's second largest utility owner/operator in wind power.
