GE Lands Huge Wind Farm Contract in Oregon By SGN Staff Dec 10, 2009 - 11:34:49 AM
Independent power producer Caithness Energy has contracted with General Electric to build giant wind turbines for its Shepherds Flat generation station in north-central Oregon. Once completed it’s expected to be the largest wind farm in the U.S. to date, with a generating capacity of 845MW – enough energy to provide electricity to more than 230,000 households.
Energy produced at the farm will go to California under three 20-year power purchase agreements between Caithness Energy and Southern California Edison. The turbines will be installed in 2011 and 2012.
The deal represents GE’s largest single order to date for its towering 2.5xl wind turbines.
