renewable energy in a big way. It's planning a strike force of airplanes, ships and submarines fueled by a mix of biofuels and nuclear power. Recent tests of an experimental gunboat fueled with a blend of algae-based fuel and diesel was described as a milestone, according to a Guardian news report. "It ran just fine," according to Rear Admiral Philip Cullom, director of the Navy's sustainability division. The successfully completed tests are a sample of the Navy's overall goal of running half its fleet on a combination of renewable fuels and nuclear power. Immediate plans are for a strike force of about 10 ships, airplanes and submarines running on biofuels and nuclear power in 2012 with full deployment planned for 2016.
