1 Tropos Networks has announced the release of GridCom 2.0, an expanded version of its GridCom architecture for smart grid distribution area networks. With 2.0, Tropos promises that utilities can build a single private network throughout their distribution areas that features high reliability, strong security, broadband performance, adaptability and control to support a variety of applications, including distribution automation, AMI backhaul, substation automation, video security and mobile workforce.
The new release addresses the challenge of creating a communications system that meets requirements for performance and latency across diverse utility coverage regions with different needs, such as urban, rural and suburban areas. Tropos said the expanded GridCom 2.0 and its selection of product offerings give utilities an economical communications network option that meets all of their requirements for communications foundations for smart grid applications now and in the future. In other words, utilities can easily and economically integrate and manage an optimal mix of wireless technologies that meets their communications needs.
Tropos also announced the release of its 1310 Distribution Automation (DA) mesh router for communicating with distribution automation devices. The offering features high bandwidth, low latency and the quality of service needed for many critical DA applications. Tropos said the mesh router integrates easily with DA equipment from a variety of vendors, which reduces cost and network management complexity.
