According to the July Pacific Crest Mosaic Smart Grid Survey, utilities consider two-way communications the most important technology in creating a fully operational Smart Grid.  Of the industry professionals surveyed, 60% selected this as their top choice.

Smart meters are also important, but to a lesser extent, with only 15% rating it as most important.
