Hot on the heels of the announcement of a Smart Grid consumer collaborative two weeks ago comes SmartSynch's unveiling of a new collaborative effort to encourage and support interoperability among Smart Grid vendors. The intent of the GridRouter EcoSystem is to turn competition into collaboration to give utilities a choice of quality Smart Grid solutions that are guaranteed for interoperability. Early supporters include AT&T, Motorola, Battelle, Itron and Cooper Power Systems.
Quick Take: While there are other efforts out there to ensure interoperability, notably the NIST Framework and Roadmap, this industry initiative could provide a number of benefits for utilities such as products certified for quality and interoperability and a stronger grip for Smart Grid vendors in the growing infrastructure market.
