SmartSynch's universal smart grid communication solution– the GridRouter -- has proven itself in a number of pilot programs conducted by Duke Energy in businesses and universities. In one application, Duke uses the GridRouter and other smart devices on a North Carolina college campus to gather and aggregate real-time energy usage data from seven campus buildings. The data goes to Duke over a secure network enabled by GridRouter and then is sent back for public viewing via a metering page on the college website. “By working with our customers to deliver more energy usage information on a recurring basis, our customers can make more informed energy buying decisions which can help them save money while reducing their carbon footprint," explained Tom Fenimore, Dukes product development manager on the college pilot.
Quick Take: There are a lot of communications options to choose from in the smart grid space right now, but the thing about GridRouter is utilities can communicate with every device on the smart grid regardless of make, model or communication protocol. And though SmartSynch isn't alone in this market, it has mindshare at this stage.
