Broadband over Power Line standard, considered a key enabling technology for smart grid applications, local area networks (LANs) and transportation. The standard, sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society, is expected to benefit utilities, service providers and consumer electronics companies, in addition to anyone involved in smart grid technologies and applications. "More than 94 corporations, trade associations and universities contributed to the standard's evolution through the IEEE 1901 Working Group to create the world's most innovative, mature and unified BPL standard," said working group chair Jean-Philippe Faure. Networking products that fully comply with IEEE 1901 will be able to deliver data rates of more than 500 Mbps in LAN applications.
communications technology in a variety of environments and applications, and particularly in the way BPL works with wireless LANs.
