. 4G network provider Alvarion says it will offer the most open and flexible platform for 4G networks using Time Division Duplexing (TDD) and announced support for the coming TD-LTE standard by incorporating it into its 4Motion solution. The company says it will "continue to actively drive the WiMAX standardization activities, ecosystem development and state-of-the-art products that incorporate the latest features to meet global operators demand." Alvarion has been developing and commercializing broadband wireless solutions for over 15 years.
Jesse Berst's Take: While others have been non-committal about their WiMax intentions, Alvarion continues to bet on this emerging communications alternative. In fact, it is stepping up its investments and encouraging an ecosystem to grow up around it. Next question: Can Alvarion and its partners fend off the competition from today's solutions (RF mesh and cellular) and the hype about tomorrow's options (4G and LTE)?
