M2M (also known as the "Internet of Things") foresees a world where billions of devices will talk to each other over the Internet. As that world approaches, we need systems to manage the networks and to manage the devices themselves.

Companies from the M2M sector have been moving into the smart grid space, which looks like it will become the first example of M2M at scale. And, as the Grid Net announcement suggests, smart grid companies are expanding into the M2M space.

Under the partnership, NetComm Wireless will design, develop, and manufacture Grid Net-enabled 3G Cellular Communications Cards for smart grid devices worldwide. The companies are targeting the Australian market first, with North America and the European Union to follow.
