Last year Itron strengthened its communications portfolio by acquiring SmartSynch and its cellular know-how. Now rival Aclara is getting a similar leg-up.
Metrum provides wireless public network communications products for electric utility customers, as well as hosted software systems and network operation center services in support of its products. The company's advanced metering products have been deployed by over 350 utilities throughout the U.S. It also offers communications products and devices for distribution automation and demand response applications.
"I believe the combination of Metrum's and Aclara's technology platforms will enable a best-in-class offering of cellular, RF and powerline communications technologies for our utility customers," said Metrum CEO Steve Swenke.
