SELECT ENERGY PROJECTS

 

Weatherization Assistance Program

Estimated funds to Nebraska: $41,644,458

·         Federal funds provide a significant increase in outreach for existing state weatherization programs, the purpose of which is to improve the thermal efficiency in homes of low-income families. Energy Office distributes funds to local Community Action Agencies (CAA). Citizens directly apply to CAAs for weatherization assistance. The CAA determines eligible participants and contracts with local companies to complete individual projects.

 

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants

Estimated funds to Nebraska: $18,810,300

·         A new program created and funded by the ARRA to reduce fossil fuel emissions and decrease total energy consumption by transportation, buildings, and other energy consuming sectors.

State Energy Program

Estimated funds to Nebraska: $30,910,000

·         The ARRA distributes additional funds to help states provide leadership to maximize the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy through communications and outreach activities, technology deployment, and accessing new partnerships and resources. This program provides energy efficiency services to consumers and small energy users, public information, energy statistics, and education in renewable energy activities. Dollar and Energy Savings Loans are perhaps the best known Nebraska activity under this program.

Electric Drive Vehicle Battery and Component Manufacturing Initiative

·         The DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory is seeking applications for grants supporting the construction (including production capacity increase of current plants), of U.S. based manufacturing plants to produce batteries and electric drive components.

Petroleum Reduction Technologies Projects for the Transportation Sector

·         Under this Area of Interest funds are being offered for cost-shared projects that expand the use of alternative fueled vehicles and advanced technology vehicles. The installation or acquisition of infrastructure necessary to directly support an alternative fueled vehicle or advanced technology vehicle is also eligible. Operation and maintenance of vehicles, infrastructure and other associated equipment acquired through the program are also allowable within specified limits.
