SELECT ENERGY PROJECTS

State Energy Program
Allocated to state: $55,570,000
· The U.S. Department of Energy has allocated $55,570,000 to Alabama for energy-related projects. As the state energy office, ADECA’s Energy Division will administer the funds. The program’s goals are to reduce energy costs and consumption for consumers, businesses and government, reduce reliance on imported energy, improve the reliability of electricity and the fuel supply and reduce the environmental impact of the production and use of energy. ADECA plans to expand existing energy programs and create new ones. Those eligible to apply for grants will include local governments, colleges and universities and nonprofit organizations. Funding priorities for the projects will include the number of jobs created or retained, measurable energy saved, renewable energy installed and reduction of greenhouse gases.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: Energy Efficiency Information and Communication Technology
(Competitive Grant / National Appropriation: $50,000,000)

This FOA seeks to develop new technologies to dramatically improve energy efficiency in ICT with an emphasis on new technologies that can be commercialized within the next 3 to 5 years, and to demonstrate through field testing highly energy efficient, emerging technologies that are ready for or are in the initial stage of commercial introduction. Approximately $50 million will be awarded to projects under this announcement, and all funds are expected to be expended within a 2-year period from the date of award. CFDA#: 81.086 State applications are due July 21, 2009.

Indirect EECBG Funding
Allocated to State: $10,000,000
· 60% of this must be used for subgrants to cities and counties, or ineligible units of local government, not receiving direct formula funding.
Transportation Electrification
(Competitive Grant / Federal Appropriation: $400,000,000)
· This program provides grants to states, local governments and transit authorities to provide electric transportation in cities that reduce emissions. Eligible projects include shipside electrification of vehicles, truck stop electrification, airport ground support equipment and cargo handling equipment. The Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), on behalf of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE) Office of Vehicle Technologies (OVT) Program, is seeking applications for grants to establish development, demonstration, evaluation, and education projects to accelerate the market introduction and penetration of advanced electric drive vehicles.
