Whew! IRS Says it Won't Tax Smart Grid Stimulus Grants

After putting the industry into an uproar with its earlier finding that Smart Grid stimulus grants to corporations were taxable, the IRS has changed its tune: The grants won't be taxed after all. Now, the Smart Grid stimulus process can continue for nearly all projects awarded funding by DOE. Read the Treasury Department announcement.

 

Quick Take: Good news for Smart Grid vendors and utilities alike. The IRS has determined that the Smart Grid stimulus grants will not be taxable for corporations, and opens the door for the checks to start rolling out. Strap on your seatbelts.
