As of early March, small businesses have been tapped to get almost $5.4 billion in Recovery Act stimulus money from a variety of programs in grants, loan guarantees, contracts and tax incentives. According to a new DOE report, those companies are involved in a long list of Smart Grid projects and related initiatives, such as wind, solar, biofuels, infrastructure, batteries and storage and energy efficiency. Quick Take: There always has been some grumbling about small business taking a back seat to the big guns in the Smart Grid stimulus programs. How could they possibly compete with the giants for the big bucks? If this DOE report is reasonably accurate — and we have no reason to think it isn't — small business appears to be doing just fine.
