Ohio's American Electric Power has selected S&C Energy Company, an innovative Smart Grid player specializing in electricity reliability, to participate in its gridSMART Project in Ohio. The demonstration project will include a variety of Smart Grid technologies, including distribution, utility back office and consumer programs.
AEP won a Smart Grid demonstration grant of $75 million from DOE last month to help support the project.
The S&C Community Energy Storage System technologies are expected to provide both the utility and its customers with several benefits, including:
· Improved distribution line efficiency to reduce power losses · Reliable local backup power in the event of an outage
· Integration of community renewable power resources
· Support for plug-in electric car deployment which includes reductions in peak demand due to charging
S&C CEO John Estey congratulated AEP on its grant and commented, "We're committed to transforming the delivery infrastructure that will power the intelligent grid in the digital age." PR-USA.Net news release
