$92M in New Stimulus Awards Target Grid-Scale Storage, Energy Efficiency

The DOE has chosen 43 research projects in 18 states to receive a total of $92 million to speed up green technology innovation, increase U.S. competitiveness in grid-scale energy storage, improve the efficiency of power electronics to reduce electricity loss, and enhance building efficiency. The awards are the last of three rounds of Recovery Act funding from the Energy Department's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) for groundbreaking research in how the country generates, stores and uses energy. The majority of the projects will be conducted by universities and small and large business with a smaller number to be handled by national labs and non-profits. Individual awards range from $400,000 to $5 million.

 

Quick Take: The projects selected in this round of awards all focus on elements critical to meeting the Smart Grid goals of clean and efficient power, energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
