Jesse Berst, Executive Editor. Jesse is an internationally known technology and business analyst. He has authored or co-authored more than a dozen books on technology topics, written hundreds of articles for leading publications and keynoted dozens of business events in the U.S. and abroad. Jesse serves on the Advisory Council of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and has also advised the U.S. Department of Energy, the GridWise Alliance, the NETL Grid Modernization program, the Gonzaga University Transmission & Distribution Program, the King County Prosperity Partnership, the Portland Business Alliance, and the Premier’s Technology Council in British Columbia, among others.
Philip Bane, Managing Editor. During his career, Philip has practiced law, managed industrial security and digital publishing operations and negotiated numerous business transactions. He was the General Counsel for First Virtual Holdings, the first internet payment company, taking it public in 1996. Prior to joining Global Smart Energy, the publisher of Smart Grid News, he was General Counsel of Apex CoVantage a large Virginia based outsourcer with 5000 employees in India. Between First Virtual and Apex, he founded the the largest Russian security integration company, G2 Technology, Inc., based in Moscow, Russia and was President of a CCTV manufacturer, ATV in Seattle, WA.
Eric Gunther, Contributing Editor. Erich is is Chairman, Chief Technology Officer, and co-founder of EnerNex Corporation. He chairs the UtilityAMI / OpenHAN standards group and serves on the GridWise Architecture Council. A professional engineer, Erich authors the monthly Tech Take review columns for SmartGridNews.
Alex Yu Zheng, Contributing Editor. Alex is currently a joint-degree graduate student at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and The MIT Sloan School of Management, pursing a Master of Public Administration degree and a Master of Business Administration degree. He also consults to utilities, regulators, private firms, local and state governments, and national laboratories through Horizon Energy Group. He graduated Stanford University with a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering and from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management.
Scott Dunn, Executive Editor. Scott has more spent more than two decades writing and publishing, particularly in the technical arena. In addition to co-authoring a number of computer books, Scott remains a contributing editor for PC World, for many years he wrote the “Windows Tips” column as well as a number of features.
Jon DeKeles, Technical Director. As a co-founder of New Riders Publishing in the mid-80s, Jon engineered the growth of the Los Angeles-based enterprise as the officer in charge of sales/marketing, technology and press relations Building it to a buyout position that attracted Que Publishing. He created a desktop publishing system to lay out their best-selling books about AutoCAD. It was a precursor to software like PageMaker and Venture Publisher. He helped to publish the first book on desktop publishing, using desktop publishing. The New Riders imprint continues to produce numerous best-selling books today. Later, in conjunction with Ziff Davis Publishing, Jon was instrumental in creating the technology behind the very popular AnchorDesk email alert, which was sent to over 3 million readers daily at its peak.
