This week's list of smart grid wins takes us around the world. PROJECT WINS
· Silver Spring Networks is partnering with CPS Energy to support smart grid development in San Antonio, Texas. Through the partnership, Silver Spring and CPS Energy will lay the groundwork to implement smart energy and smart city technology across the utility's service territory, which includes approximately 740,000 electric and 340,000 natural gas customers. CPS Energy is the largest municipally owned electric and natural gas utility in the U.S. In addition to providing smart grid networking services, Silver Spring will help expand San Antonio's New Energy Economy initiative, focusing on economic development, job creation and workforce development efforts. o OCI Solar Power broke ground this week on the first phase of its solar deal with CPS Energy, which it says pairs sizeable generation with economic development. OCI says the 400 MW San Antonio project is the largest in the state and will catapult Texas to one of the top five U.S. solar producing states. Read more >>
· Siemens won an order from the Japanese company Toyota Tsusho Corp. to build 24 transformer substations for the Iraqi Electricity Ministry. Siemens will build the turnkey substations in 10 Iraqi provinces to help upgrade the power supply in the country. The order has a volume of €62.1 million. Read more >>
· Alstom is entering the Canadian wind market through an agreement with NaturEner for the supply of up to 414 MW of wind turbines to be installed at NaturEner’s Wild Rose Projects in Alberta. The agreement includes 138 wind turbines and 10 years of maintenance services. Read more >> · Tag Energy Solutions was tapped to manufacture 16 monopiles and transition pieces for E.ON's Humber Gateway offshore wind farm in the UK. The £736 million farm, situated off Britain's Yorkshire Coast, will consist of a 73 turbine array that will generate up to 219MW of electricity, or enough energy to power up to 170,000 homes, according to the announcement. · Zinc Air and Flathead Electric Co-op (FEC) announced an agreement to install a battery on FEC's campus in Kalispell, Montana. The installation will help demonstrate how ZAI's technology can deliver on the long-held promise of battery storage technologies in delivering cheap, clean and abundant power, according to a press release. The field trial will allow ZAI and FEC to run a number of applications for both utility and end user benefits, such as peak demand reduction and load shifting. Read more >>
· Milsoft Utility Solutions announced that its GIS and field engineering solutions were chosen by Lighthouse Electric Cooperative in Floydada, Texas and by Natchez Trace Electric Power Association in Houston, Mississippi. Read more >>
