BGE smart grid initiative
Baltimore Gas and Electric’s (BGE) smart grid Initiative consists of a territory-wide deployment of smart meters and an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). Nearly 1.3 million smart meters are being deployed to residential and commercial customers supporting time-based rate programs and other service offerings. A customer web portal provides energy usage information and allows customers to better manage their consumption. Direct load control devices enable cycling of central air conditioners and electric water heaters by BGE during peak periods for customers who elect to participate. Get details >>

Maryland Clean Bay Power project seeks animal waste-to-energy proposals
The state of Maryland is looking to buy electricity generated from animal waste. Poultry litter or livestock manure are the types of waste the state is hoping will be used in the Clean Bay Power project. Those interested in providing animal-waste energy must be able to generate up to 10 megawatts, be directly connected to the regional electricity grid and start supplying power to the state by Dec. 31, 2015.
