Opportunity

This three-topic FOA focuses on geothermal energy. One goal of the initiative is to reduce the high level of risk during the early stages of geothermal project development by funding the validation of innovative exploration activities to locate undiscovered geothermal systems and increase the reliability of site characterization to prioritize target sites for energy production.

2.     Geothermal energy production from low temperature resources, co-produced fluids from oil and gas wells, and geo-pressured resources

Eligibility

·         Institutions of higher education

·         Non-profit and for-profit private entities

·         State and local governments

·         Indian tribes and tribal energy resource development organizations or groups

Requirements

To submit a concept paper, applicants must:

1.     Obtain a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number

2.     Register with the Central Contract Registry (CCR)

3.     Register with FedConnect

Application Tip

Applications with more aggressive schedules for completion, greater number of jobs created, cost share above the minimum level required, and cooperation between industry, accredited educational institutions, and/or Indian tribes/native corporations may be given greater consideration.

Cost sharing requirements

Topic area 1: By phases, with minimum range of 20% to 50% preferred

Topic area 2: Minimum of 50% preferred

Topic area 3: Not required
