In an effort to squeeze more energy savings out of commercial building operations, NV Energy and BuildingIQ have decided to set up a trial run of what they say is a new concept in energy efficiency. The project, which will be part of NV's long-term Market and Technology trials program, will be based on BuildingIQ's technology platform for dynamically optimized HVAC operations, and the two also will be working toward other options for energy savings and demand management.

 

Participants will be selected commercial NV customers in Las Vegas, and the goal is to achieve 12.1 gigawatt hours of annual energy savings with BuildingIQ's predictive energy optimization application. The company says its applications is the only energy management software platform that predicts energy demand and automatically adjusts building HVAC settings to constantly optimize energy use and peak loads. The system works with existing building energy management and utility demand response systems, and also brings in weather forecasts, occupant comfort, utility prices and demand response signals in its optimization calculations.

 

The program is intended to cut energy costs and emissions while at the same time ensuring continued or improved comfort for occupants.

 

The trial will give NV the opportunity investigate the potential of a single integrated energy optimization system, which fits into the utility's priorities of finding solutions for integrated energy efficiency and demand response for programs to come.

Think BIG

NV Energy should team up with OptimumEnergy of Seattle. Help its customers replace constant speed drives with variable frequency drives that can be throttled. Then they'll see some eye-popping savings. Disclaimer. I'm not affiliated with OptimumEnergy. I just like their idea.
