This paper provides a first-order quantification of energy savings and carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions reduction impacts of a Smart Grid infrastructure. Based on seven different mechanisms, the emissions reduction impact of a Smart Grid is estimated as 60 to 211 million metric tons of CO2 per year in 2030.
