New Mexico Smart Grid R&D Projects Snag Some Yen

A Japanese government agency, two national laboratories and New Mexico have signed agreements to collaborate on Smart Grid R&D projects in the state. Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) will pony up $30 million over the next four years for the projects. Read the full story.

 

Quick Take: Both the U.S. and Japan have poured billions into Smart Grid R&D projects, and it looks like both countries will benefit from the collaboration since all of the companies and agencies involved will be able to test new technologies to see how they'll work in a thoroughly integrated, functional Smart Grid. Also, it can't hurt that emerging Smart Grid heavyweight Toshiba has reportedly signed up to participate in the Smart Grid R&D projects.
