FERC Postpones Demand Response Conferences

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has postponed two conferences on its National Action Plan for Demand Response. The conferences had been scheduled to take place Oct. 22 in Washington, D.C., and Oct. 27 in Portland, OR, and were intended to obtain further input from interested stakeholders on possible components of the plan.

FERC's Barbara Connors told Smart Grid News that the conferences were postponed because of scheduling conflicts. She added that the conferences have not been re-scheduled.

In June FERC released the results of a study on demand response mandated by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The study found that demand response potential over the next 10 years could save between 38 and 188 GW of electricity, depending on how widely demand response is applied.

Last month, FERC proposed standards for the measurement and verification of the performance of demand response services. The standards are intended to improve transparency, provide consistency and reduce transaction costs for consumers in demand response programs.
