The Smart Grid playing field may have shifted a bit this week as GE announced it will use WiMAX in a grid pilot program for Michigan utility Consumer Energy. And smart meter software startup Grid Net, which uses the 4G technology, announced that Cisco has taken an equity investment in the company.
Quick Take: It's been a huge week for WiMAX between Cisco's investment in Grid Net and GE's Michigan pilot for Consumer Energy. Some people thought WiMAX was going to be a marginal player in the U.S. Smart Grid. But with these heavy hitters involved, it looks like WiMAX could be coming off the bench.
