General Electric's Ecomagination green R&D program, which began with an initial investment of $5 billion, has earned $70 billion in revenue from the program's inception in 2005 through the end of 2009, according to a CNet report taken from GE statistics. Now GE plans to double the ante to a $10 billion investment over the next five years. The Ecomagination program has yielded products ranging from compact fluorescent lighting to Smart Grid components such as battery technologies, wind turbines and smart appliances.
Quick Take: We thought GE was slow out of the Smart Grid gate, but the multi-faceted giant is certainly making up for any lost time – investing heavily and enhancing its credibility and reach in green tech.
