The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is an independent agency that regulates interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas, and oil. It also reviews proposals for construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities and interstate natural gas pipelines. FERC also licenses and inspects hydropower projects. .
The Federal Energy Policy Act of 2005 provided another layer of responsibilities for the agency, including:
