Scores of countries, states and provinces around the globe are using feed-in tariffs – or FITs – to boost renewable energy development. Many have seen great success, particularly in Europe. And though FITs do have their advocates in the U.S., policy makers and other stakeholders have been slow to embrace the concept. So why is that when renewable energy is on every utility's to-do list? Are FITs too disruptive? Too costly? Bad for competition?
